The Passion of Jesus Christ
(Dave Cooley)
He was taken from our midst
Betrayed by one that he called friend
Just a single kiss
Revealed the enemy within
And so the end was to begin
He was guarded on all sides
So that he could not escape
He did not struggle or resist
He has accepted as his fate
His death would save us from our sins
He was taken to the priests
Said the high priest Caiaphas
“You are accused of many things
The worst is that you have blasphemed
You called yourself the Son of God
Claimed to be a holy king.”
Then they beat him with their fists
Kick him as he writhed in pain
A crown of thorns pierced His flesh
As they spat on him and laughed
I saw blood mingling with tears
Blood mingled with his tears
He stood before the maddened crowd
Pilate standing at His side
Pilate said he found no crime
No reason for this man to die
They shouted louder “Crucify!”
He sent our Lord away to die
Jesus told us he would die
And on the third day rise again
To fulfill the prophecies
And glorify the Father’s name
But we did not understand
How could we understand?
I saw him hanging on the cross
Blood mingled with his tears
Mocked and taunted by the mob
Yet with his dying breath
“Father, forgive them,” was His plea
Blood mingling with tears…
