(Read John 17:20; Ephesians 4: 1-6)
"I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, entreat you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, showing forbearance to one another in love, being diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all who is over all and through all and in all."

This song is basically a paraphrase of this passage in Ephesians, chapter 4. Brothers and sisters, are we being diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit? We ought to be working hard at it. The Christian ecumenical movement seems to be a topic very near to our Lord's heart since it was what He prayed for on the night of His betrayal.

"...that they may be one, even as Thou, Father, art in Me, and I in Thee, that they also may be in Us; that the world may believe that Thou didst send Me."

Make then one

One

Reaching all four corners of the earth, this tree has grown
A canopy that's large enough for all
One undivided union with the Father and the Son
One Spirit and one hope to which we're called
There must be only one body
As there is only one Son
Praying to His God and Father
"Make them one"

One Lord, one faith, and one baptism
One God and Father of all
One Lord, one faith, and one baptism
One God who is over all

In peace we tie the union with our brothers everywhere
In unity we share the family meal
We break one loaf together and we have one cup to share
Which calls for every broken limb to heal
There must be only one body
As there is only one Son
Praying to His God and Father
"Make them one"

One Lord, one faith, and one baptism
One God and Father of all
One Lord, one faith, and one baptism
One God who is over all

Being diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit
We lay down our pride
In humility and gentleness, in patient endurance
May love... may love be our guide

One Lord, one faith, and one baptism
One God and Father of all
One Lord, one faith, and one baptism
One God who is over all
One God who is in all and through all and over us all
